Simba, an African lion (Panthera leo) at Jungle Cat World Zoo, takes possession of my camera case and looks to be having quite a bit of fun with it.

The empty case is soft, squishy and durable so I decided to give it to the little guy to play with. He enjoyed digging his claws into it, biting it, and dragging it around to different places in his enclosure. Other cubs have had similar reactions to it with some getting very possessive.

Simba took such a liking to it that, in one instance, when finished playing with it he calmly used his teeth to grab it by the handle, walked over to his toy box and placed it neatly on top. It was one of the more adorable things I've seen at the zoo and made me feel like a bit of a grinch when I had to reclaim it.

He looks so cute and tiny at the moment and a little time later he will be a magnificent king of the cats. But my irrational thought for the moment is - i want to take him home:)

I love how all babies- no matter what species- have the same eyes un-uniformed mouth open drooling gurgling look to them. And also, head that seem bald or bed-head hair. Oh, we all DO come from the same place.

Heh, it sounds like our bags share the same fate. I don't get to play with large cats, but the domestic variety can't get enough of my purse and backpack. They love to crawl inside, bat at the contents, gnaw on zippers, or just lay on top of either bag. I guess its the collective smell of all the other kitties and other interesting scents that I've picked up over the years. Maybe the cubs can tell you're an animal lover, so they find your scent comforting. ^_^
