Sympathy Among Cubs by HeWhoWalksWithTigers Sympathy Among Cubs by HeWhoWalksWithTigers
Something a bit different from me, but I felt compelled to post these two photos as a heartwarming sequence. I don't usually like to anthropomorphize animals like this, but couldn't resist. Shere Khan is the Amur tiger cub and Geronimo is the puma cub...both live at Jungle Cat World Zoo.

I would like to think we could have the same sympathy. Cougars might not be able to do much for their Asian feline friends, but we certainly can...and should.

If you want to find out more about tigers and how you can help, I definitely urge you to please visit this website. [link]

It's people like us that can help save the tiger.

---

Tigers are the largest of the big cats and are exclusively found in Asia from India to Vietnam, from Indonesia to the Russian Far East. The tiger can be divided into 9 subspecies: 4 are currently critically endangered and 3 are already extinct. Though estimations of tiger populations only a few years ago was 5,500-6,000, today populations are likely closer to 3,500 and are still declining. Dramatic declines of the tiger in India, thought to host the majority of the world's tigers, have fallen to less than 1,411. Overall, the past decade has seen a 40% reduction in tiger habitat, which now represents a mere 7% of its historic range. Poaching is a significant problem throughout the tiger's range, the demand for its body parts in traditional medicines, tonics, and exotic dishes driving a lucrative trade that is wiping out entire populations. Long-term threats include habitat fragmentation and prey depletion, which is accelerating the tiger's demise and subsequently reducing the long-term genetic viability of many populations.

If you want to help, the best for you to do is to educate yourself ([link]), never buy products made from tigers or endangered species ([link]), and tell others. Contact me for more information.

I was jobless for years. I spent my time volunteering anyway I could, online and in person (when I could). It got me good experience. If you have the internet, spreading the word is a good way to help. It all depends on your passion and imagination. Don't limit yourself, you can do anything if you're passionate and determined.

The thing that really pisses me off is that the traditional medicines don't even work but people use them anyway

Aw, how sweet! Tigers and Mountain lions are two of my favorite big cats. I did read an article some time ago that a recent study showed an increase in the Tiger population in India.

I've seen them perform at county fairs. The white and golden tigers have beautiful coats.

I have heard many people have claimed to have reported seeing Javan Tigers which are thought to be extinct along with the Caspian and Bali tigers. Some have even found tracks. There was a case where 2 Javan tiger cubs were sold for $250 U.S. dollars as recently as a year ago!

Cute photos. I've always found it interesting that animals, regardless of species can get along yet many people can't.
